Barack Smarter Than Wolf…

SEN. BARACK OBAMA (D-IL), ” We have now set the bar so low that modest improvement in what was a completely chaotic situation to the point where now we just have the levels of intolerable violence that existed in June of 2006 is considered success. And it’s not.”

Talk about a low bar…

Former Virginia governor Mark R. Warner announced today that he is running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican John W. Warner, setting the stage for one of the most competitive races in the country next year, according to sources familiar with his decision.

Warner could face Rep. Thomas M. Davis III or former governor James S. Gilmore III. Both are likely to seek the Republican nomination, but neither is expected to announce plans until after the Nov. 6 state elections.

Davis declined to comment Wednesday, saying he would make a statement after Warner’s announcement is official. Gilmore said that he is interested in the race and that Warner’s decision would not affect his: “Sending a Democrat to the United States Senate at this very critical time is not the best policy.”

Warner has appeared eager in recent days to run for the Senate. He plans to present himself to voters as a problem solver who would be willing to cross party lines to push bipartisan changes in Washington.

Warner(R-VA) becomes Warner(D-VA)? Sometimes twisting the knife just seems appropriate…

“The Bombing Starts in Five Minutes…”

Fred Hiatt today unleashes an Editorial Page attack on Mohamed ElBaradei

Hiatt, like most of official Washington, is desperate to maintain the Seriousness credentials of those who want to bomb Iran, as that group now includes such luminaries as Joe Lieberman, Bill Kristol, Charles Krauthammer and by all reports, Dick Cheney. To do so, Hiatt lowers the Seriousness standard about as far as it can be lowered — thus, the members of Bomb Iran crowd are, Hiatt assures us, “saner than many of the statements of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad,” and thus presumably worthy of respect.

It should go without saying that being “saner than many of the statements of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad” is a worthless standard, entitling those who meet it to absolutely nothing in the way of respect and credibility. But as low as it is, it is highly questionable whether, as Hiatt claims, the leading members of the “Bomb Iran” crowd meet even this standard.

Don’t call it a debate, “It’s The Spanish Inquisition!”…

Mark your calendars for the September 17 Value Voters debate

Look at who will be coming up with the questions for the GOP candidates, it’s going to be so much fun:

* Paul Weyrich, founder and president of the Free Congress Foundation
* Phyllis Schlafly, founder and president of Eagle Forum
* Don Wildmon of the American Family Association
* Judge Roy Moore, columnist at WND and head of the Foundation for Moral Law
* Rick Scarborough of Vision America
* Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel.

Oh my, get the popcorn ready. So far, only the second/third tier candidates have accepted the invitation; Ron Paul, John Cox, Duncan Hunter, Mike Huckabee, Tom Tancredo, and Sam Brownback. They are still “working on” getting Rudy, Mitt, McCain and fantasy candidate Fred Thompson to appear. Let’s see, which is worse for these guys — appearing and choking on their hypocrisy, or not showing up, thumbing their noses at the Base?

~John Ridley

It is not that a man who took us to war wishes his legacy to be about freedom. If there were a Nobel Prize for hypocrisy I think Kennedy or Johnson would be running neck and neck with Bush. What’s “fantastic” about Bush’s plans is that he wants to propagate freedom without seeming to understand the fundamentals of liberty. It ain’t all about bombs and tanks and diplomacy from the working end of a gun. It is about unrestricted exchange. It is about occupying real estate where reasonable people publicly tussle over tough ideas. It is opinion given unadorned rather than served with ginned up intelligence or hidden behind executive privilege and presidential clemency or warrant-less wiretaps. Freedom — as trite as it sounds — requires vigilance and oversight.

…Here,here!

“Escalate” sounds dirty, let’s call it a surge…

When they did start to take that seriously, the media largely bought into the White House’s “surge” slogan rather than the more appropriate “escalation,” which some Democrats promoted.

When His Lips Are Moving….

Ah, but it is not as easy as that, Mr. Leader. There are other incidents and episodes involving other individuals. There’s Stevens, whose FBI incident could figure in his reelection episode next year, and Sen. Pete Domenici (N.M.), who is involved in controversial incidents at the Justice Department. Another Republican individual, Sen. John Warner (Va.), announced last week that he’s quitting the whole Senate episode; several other Republicans are contemplating retirement or likely defeat while the party defends 22 seats next year to the Democrats’ 12.

All of this has led McConnell to a firm if counterintuitive conclusion: The Democrats are in big trouble.

McConnell and Cornyn, never even met the truth, but it’ll never stop their lips from flapping…
