Why???
It just struck me as strange. Why was Fox News attacking a rape victim? Why was Tucker Carlson on MSNBC? Were they just attacking a black women with no money going against some rich white kid? I figured there had to be a Republican somewhere. Maybe a Bush “Pioneer” or two? So I looked around…
Jason Bissey, who was on his porch next door during the party, saw the victim that night. He said Friday that he wishes he had called police at the first sign something was wrong.
He saw at least 30 men go into the white three-bedroom house, which Duke officials say is rented by three lacrosse team captains.
Bissey saw two women arrive and, after they were in the house 20 minutes, come out. As they got into a car, men shouted, Bissey said.
“Some of them were saying things like, ‘I want my money back,’ ” Bissey said.
“When I was outside, one guy yelled at her, ‘… Thank your grandpa for my cotton shirt,’ “ Bissey said.
Days later, Bissey learned one of the young women reported being raped.
Police have been called to the house at 610 N. Buchanan Blvd. four times since September, according to police records.
Residents also questioned why police waited two days to search the house after the rape was reported.
OK, Three captains, apparently there are four…
Duke head men’s lacrosse coach Mike Pressler announced on Tuesday the appointment of seniors David Evans, Dan Flannery, Bret Thompson and Matt Zash as team captains for the 2006 season.
Isn’t Google fun? It finds things like this…
The victim’s account is documented on TheSmokingGun.com’s web site and mentions how two males named Adam and Matt pulled her into a bathroom. Someone shut the door behind her and said “Sweetheart, you can’t leave”. The victim claims she attempted to leave but was prevented from doing so by Adam, Matt and another named individual, Brett.
If only I had a team roster…
40 Matt Danowski ATTACK 6-0 190 Jr. Farmingdale, N.Y. (Farmingdale)
12 Capt. Dan Flannery ATTACK 5-11 190 Sr. Garden City, N.Y. (Garden City)

10 Capt. Matt Zash MIDFIELDER 5-11 190 Sr. Massapequa, N.Y. (Massapequa)
Three Matts, One Adam, One Bret…Anyone with money and government connections?

THE DISTRICT’S POWER BEHIND THE SCENES
Washington Post-connected business group
wields influence over city’s legislative agendaBy KATHRYN SINZINGER
Staff Writer
An exclusive group of largely wealthy Washington area business people has for years been working behind the scenes with the city’s political leaders to advance its own agenda for the nation’s capital - often without D.C. residents’ input and almost always without wide knowledge of its efforts.Legislative influence of the group, which has close ties to the Washington Post, extends from the D.C. City Council and the mayor’s office to the halls of Congress and the White House, according to sources interviewed for this story.
Membership in the private and generally secretive group, called the Federal City Council, is highly selective. Washington Post Publisher Donald E. Graham serves as nominating committee chairman for the organization, which was founded in 1954 by his father, the late Post Publisher Philip L. Graham. \
“They’re controlling the city and it’s a problem,” said Sandra Seegars, a longtime Ward 8 activist and recent appointee to the D.C. Taxicab Commission. “It’s a secret group that’s in the background pushing buttons and pulling strings, but nobody knows who they are.”
Librarian Matthew Gilmore noted with a chuckle that files about the Federal City Council “disappear” from the library’s collection almost as soon as they get created.
Here’s a list of the members of the Federal City Council, called Washington “trustees,” along with their business affiliation as published by the organization in January 1999.
…
Bruce E. Thompson Jr. Vice president, director of government relations Merrill Lynch & Co
He seems also to be part of some secret politically powerful group too. With connections to the Washington Post. I guess they won’t be publishing this, huh?
And while he doesn’t seem to be a Bush Ranger or Pioneer his Boss sure is(E. Stanley O’Neal Chair, CEO & President Merrill Lynch & Co. )
Though Bruce did find time to hit the 2004 Republican Convention…
Wall Street stood out among this week’s hosts. Of the 78 major contributors to the New York host committee, 31 are accounting firms, investment banks, mutual fund or insurance firms. Together they contributed as much as $25 million - and threw a dizzying array of soirees honoring congressional committees, chairmen and state delegations. “For us, it’s just a matter of building relationships,” said Bruce Thompson, vice president of government relations at Merrill Lynch. He is attending four parties a day.
So if you too were wondering why those classy people of the Right Wing Media like Fox News, or maybe Tucker Carlson at MSNBC’s The Situation with Tucker Tailspin, would attack a women who reported being cruelly gang raped by three white guys, would imply she’s a liar and a tramp and probably deserved it, I really have no idea. I really don’t understand why anyone with a shred of morality or integrity would do such a thing.
Hey Tucker, what if it was your daughter?

Great work. One tiny thing though, Carlson’s show is just The Situation. The Situation Room is Blitzer’s gig (one of them anyway) at CNN.

Umm… what happened to innocent until proven guilty in a court of law? SSquirrel, that’s impressive dot connecting but let’s keep things in perspective for both sides. Just because one side is corrupt doesn’t give license for the other side to play dirty too. We can’t believe in the presumption of innocence only when it suits us–it goes to all Americans whether rich or poor, white or black, Republican or Democrat.

I attacked the right wing media for attacking the character of a defenseless woman. They are guilty. It is a fact they are attacking her character.I made no accusations against Bret Thompson. I have not speculated on his character. I do deplore the team’s silence. If you know your friend is innocent then defend him. If you know what happened then tell the police. To do neither is unethical.

The only operatve part of that paragraph right now is “……would imply she’s a liar………..” I can’t speak for any of the parties, but perhaps they said it because mountains of evidence are coming forth that it is true?

“mountains” Huh? There are many fine brands of Kool-Aid that don’t cause brain damage these days. You know most people with access to the internet aren’t as ignorant as you are. I see this women had one prior contact with police. I see the police called to the players house “four times since september”. I see witnesses of ethnic slurs that night. I also recall a player threatening to skin her alive in an e-mail. And I also know that most drunk rapists do not ejaculate. I see they lost a big game two days prior, to Rutgers I think. I see a hospital exam entirely supportive of her statement. I see a massive PR campaign including the lawyer President Clinton hired, a large private detective firm investigating her background, and the right wing outrage factory running a smear campaign on tiny inconsistencies taken entirely out of context. And I’m just getting warmed up.

Wow!!! This is a truly impressive effort of not focusing on the facts of the case that will be used in a Court of law. Move to strike.
“Paranoia will destroy ya.”
I’m sure you mean “I also know that most drunks [] do not ejaculate.” Sound like personal experience. This might be the source of your delusion.

What case? No charges have been filed. What delusion? The ones on video of talking heads making unsupported implications based on leaks from a defense team hired at a cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars before charges are filed? Coulda bought the kid a Ferrari if he’s so innocent. C’mon guys, ain’t ya got nuthin? This the best ya can do?

Reread her account of the assault. She broke her accrylic nails off defending herself. Ok, since we have already taken DNA samples of all the lacrosse team, why can the DA not match this to skin samples from under the broken nails?
Ok, not every drunk person ejaculates. But this was condomless sodomy. This would cause skin breakage for all parties involved, and leaving definatle DNA evidence.
The fact that the DA was so adamant about DNA test conclusively defining the suspects leads me to beleive that SOME DNA evidence was discovered. DA’s KNOW that DNA is not always recovered, but in this case the DA was damn sure in his statement that the swabs would link the team. I call shennanigans, and I do not think it is wrong to be sure before we drag this team down. Your witnesses only corroborate parts of the team’s own story. Further, racial slurs are not a crime in this country. All the team can be proven guilty of at this point is bad taste.

Acrylic nails come off fairly easily, and will not always penetrate bare skin much less a shirt and certainly not jeans. And CSI shows are complete fiction. Moreover I am not attacking the team for a crime. I am attacking the right wing media for being sleazy deamagogues in service of influential Repugs. My criticism of the players is their total lack of cooperation with the police, and whatever role their parents have in attacking this woman’s character on national TV. I see no substantive reason to doubt this woman’s charges though. But for now the only justice I seek is for several of the screeching heads on Fox News to be taken out and put in stocks in the public square, maybe put Tucker in charge of feeding them and hosing them off occasionally…

Because it is horribly dangerous for society to allow this kind of speech. OUTLAW IT!
Criticize the players however you wish; just remember that they have the right to not self-incriminate. A case like this leaves very little room for middle ground. A serious crime has either been commited or made up. It follows that if you question the crime, you question the girl. This is not simply character assassination, it is a simple fact. This girl was horribly assaulted, or she has commited a crime herself.
Three men assaulted her, we’ll assume, in a space barely large enough for them to fit in. Four hours after the supposed assault, without any evidence destroying shower, all material evidence in this case vanished. Because the boys were wearing hazmat suits I would guess.
In a case where it’s he said/she said the character is the only evidence to rebut.

A lawyer yes, but the most expensive one in the country? And a PR firm? And a team of investigator’s? And using political connections for a national attack on the character of a women who has already been severly traumatized, in an effort to silence and discredit her? Before being charged? There is a difference between defending yourself and your rights, and using money and power to deny someone else their rights. That line was crossed and Fox News led the way.
