Still Hilariously Stupid…

Michelle Malkin once again displays for the world just how dumb she really is. She can’t even come up with decent lies. It probably took Judd at thinkprogress all of ten seconds to actually read the entire statute (and five minutes to stop laughing long enough to drag himself off the floor) and see she had quoted the wrong section of the statute.[50 USC 413b(c)(2)]:

“exception Malkin cites only applies to “covert action.” And, 50 USC 413b(e) — titled “‘covert action’ defined” – specifically says that “covert action” does not include “activities the primary purpose of which is to acquire intelligence” Alberto Gonzales has said repeatedly that the purpose of the program was to acquire “signals intelligence.”

After deftly providing much of the online world with merriment and mirth, she proudly proclaims her own special version of Roseanne Rosannadannaism with:

145pm EST update and correction: As Think Progress notes, the exemption I cite applies to “covert action,” not NSA surveillance.

In other words, either “I am stupid, hear me roar” or “I got caught lying again”

She then changes excuses entirely and sites a vague sentence:

(a) In general

To the extent consistent with due regard for the protection from unauthorized disclosure of classified information relating to sensitive intelligence sources and methods or other exceptionally sensitive matters, the Director of Central Intelligence and the heads of all departments, agencies, and other entities of the United States Government involved in intelligence activities shall—

Without explanation as somehow vindicating her having cited the wrong statute in the first place. I’m sure she finds some special meaning in this phrase, and maybe if you ignore the word “unauthorized” or decide that “exceptionally sensitive” is meant to mean when the President decides to violate his oath of office and the law, such as in the section she originally and entirely falsely cited:

(2) Except as permitted by paragraph (1), a finding may not authorize or sanction a covert action, or any aspect of any such action, which already has occurred.

or Fearless Leader’s seeming favorite

(5) A finding may not authorize any action that would violate the Constitution or any statute of the United States.

Or perhaps she is trying to excuse violating the constitution by using the catchall excuse that elected officials will release the ultra secret “source and method” that the NSA can monitor phone calls and email. Just like your boss at work!!! Wow, the NSA can monitor communications worldwide! Guess that explains all those books and movies and statements from every federal building in the country(with the possible exception of local post offices) pointing that out!

And I suppose it would be just piling on to note the rest of the statute that requires:

(2) furnish the congressional intelligence committees any information or material concerning intelligence activities, other than covert actions, which is within their custody or control, and which is requested by either of the congressional intelligence committees in order to carry out its authorized responsibilities.

(b) Form and contents of certain reports

Any report relating to a significant anticipated intelligence activity or a significant intelligence failure that is submitted to the congressional intelligence committees for purposes of subsection (a)(1) of this section shall be in writing, and shall contain the following:

(1) A concise statement of any facts pertinent to such report.

(2) An explanation of the significance of the intelligence activity or intelligence failure covered by such report.

I sincerely doubt Chimpy McFlightsuit has made “A concise statement of any facts pertinent” in this century,
and I can think of at least one intelligence failure he has spent four years doing everything possible to avoid explaining.

But a huge, sincere thank you to the former Miss Mangleladanglelangdangdo (she hates that) for the best laugh of the week(and wingnuts provide very stiff(eight inches, cut) competition these days). I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next…
